If you have an eCommerce, this November 28th you have to be prepared, because on this date Cyber Monday 2022 is celebrated, one of the most important events of the year for eCommerce, along with Black Friday. Remember that on these dates, we must begin to prepare price promotion strategies for Cyber Monday that are essential to achieve the success of our eCommerce.

Below, we tell you everything you need to know about Cyber Monday.

What is the origin?

Cyber Monday was celebrated for the first time on November 28, 2005 in the United States; however, it did not arrive in Spain until 2012.

This event was created with the main objective of promoting online shopping thanks to attractive discounts for users, as we remember that in 2005 eCommerce still had a long way to go, since it was something new for many, which generated uncertainty and, in addition, many people did not have Internet at home, so they could buy products online only connected from their workplace.

When is it celebrated?

Like Black Friday, its celebration is related to Thanksgiving Day, a popular tradition in the United States and Canada, which takes place on the fourth Thursday of November, so Cyber Monday does not have a fixed date on the calendar, since it is the Monday after Thanksgiving.

This 2022, Thanksgiving is on November 24, Black Friday is on November 25 and Cyber Monday is on November 28.

How is this different from Black Friday?

The main difference lies in its origin, since Black Friday originated in Philadelphia in 1961, to take advantage of the Christmas campaign, while Cyber Monday was celebrated for the first time in 2005, with the aim of promoting online shopping.

Cyber Monday, therefore, is intended to affect exclusively online shopping, while Black Friday, held 2 days before, is intended to provide discounts in all types of commerce, whether they have a physical store, online or both.

These dates are so close because, in its beginnings, Cyber Monday was announced as an opportunity to purchase online products that could not be purchased during Black Friday, since, when this event began, the offers lasted only one day.

On the other hand, in its beginnings, Black Friday was mainly focused on items with a more "affordable" price for Christmas gifts, such as toys or clothing, while Cyber Monday offered discounts on higher-priced items, mainly technology.

However, nowadays, both festivities are very similar, in fact, there are offers that extend throughout the month of November, popularly known as "Black month", without distinction of discounts depending on whether it is "Black Friday" or "Cyber Monday". In addition, Cyber Monday is currently celebrated in all types of stores, without being exclusively online purchases.

What products are discounted during Cyber Monday?

We differentiate between the products discounted in 2005 and today.

In its beginnings

Cyber Monday was initially more focused on technology products for having a higher price and also, being frequent gifts at Christmas, since, remember that this event, like Black Friday, was created thinking of offering people products with discounts for the Christmas campaign.

Actuality

Currently, during Cyber Monday, eCommerce offers products from all categories, although the main ones are the following:

  • Fashion
  • Accessories
  • Books
  • Appliances
  • Toys
  • Technology

How to prepare our eCommerce for Cyber Monday?

It is important to foresee that being an event very close to Black Friday we may have a lack of stock in our products due to the high number of sales that are made during this event in our eCommerce, so do not forget to visit our guide on Black Friday "How to prepare your eCommerce for Black Friday 2022", we are sure that it can also help you to manage your eCommerce and increase your sales during Cyber Monday 2022.

This fact has a double variant, since there are many people who take advantage of this holiday to purchase products that they have not found or managed to acquire during Black Friday. To do this, we can prepare a restock for Cyber Monday, conduct a market study to forecast sales or even differentiate the discounted products according to the event, i.e., make discounts on products exclusively for Cyber Monday.
